Can you find the right steps to solve each challenge? StepUp is an addicting puzzle game that requires you to rethink what you know about solving equations. Simply choose a step to get closer to solving for x, but be careful, the path to the solution gets trickier the farther you go.
You can also work together to solve levels on StepUp as a team. Solve puzzles with your friends by handing off your phone or tablet each turn to work together to get the solution. If you don’t have friends around, you can play online by hosting a game and having your friends join.
StepUp is an engaging way to practice and teach solving equations. All parts of the game strictly follow the rules of math, but as the levels progress, it becomes more challenging to solve each equation. Students playing StepUp develop a deeper understanding about equations and equality by being pressed to explore different approaches for solving equations.
StepUp can be used with students in a couple ways. For students who are struggling to figure out what steps to use to solve a one variable equation, have them start using StepUp from the first level and talk about why certain steps solve the equation while others do not. For students who already know how to solve basic one variable equations, use StepUp to push their understanding of equality. Have these students play until they have reached the harder orange and red levels, at which they will be challenged to think about how there are different approaches to solving equations that are still mathematically valid. The harder levels get to a difficulty where they can even provide some challenge to an experienced mathematician.
